Those are the compressed files that hold all of the gnu applications that are included with Knoppix. Knoppix holds more applications than can normally be included on a CD or DVD by compressing all of the applications into these files (the 700 meg CD has about 2 gig of applications on it). The DVD uses 2 files because one file alone would be larger than the 2 gig filesize limit imposed by ISO9660, the filesystem used on the optical discs.

Verifying of md5 checksum and burning a CD at slow speed are important.

This is how I do that (directly from CD iso):
Code:
# mount -o loop Knoppix.iso /mnt
# modprobe cloop
# losetup /dev/cloop0 /mnt/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX
# mount /dev/cloop0 /mnt
mount: block device /dev/cloop0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
# umount /mnt
# losetup -d /dev/cloop0
# umount /mnt
In DVD you have KNOPPIX1 and KNOPPIX2 instead of KNOPPIX file.
