boot from CD with root on HD

I installed the Knoppix on a spare partition of my harddrive, but I did
not install lilo in the master boot record. I thought I was able to boot from
the CD and then say: knoppix root=/dev/hda5, but unfortunately it doesn't work.
The CD still uses the root file system on the CD.

Is there any other way to do it. I have no floppy on this computer, so no
boot floppy.
