Cannot Start Samba from Menu

Samba works for me if I use the root shell method. But if I try clicking on Knoppix -> Services -> Start Samba, nothing happens. Why?

Are you running Live off the CD, or installed to HD? It works for me when I run off the CD, but not when booting off the HD.
