A smaller Knoppix distro
Hey
I bought me a USB-pen with 512MB. Got it working with DSL. But now I`m looking for a distro with a little more to offer then DSL, but smaller then the full version of Knoppix. I`m gonna use it for security reasons so tools like nessus, kismet, airsnort, ethereal etc. would be nice. Would also be nice to have te ipw2100 driver pre-installed
I looked at Knoppix STD, but it looks like an early version, and is i little bit to big.
Anyone got a few pointers??
Thnx!!

You could try mini-Knoppix but it is kind of old also. I like Slax myself put it might be larger than you want. For a large list of Live cd's go here:
http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php
You should be able to find a small distro to your liking there.

feather linux perhaps?
http://featherlinux.berlios.de/
a qoute from their page
What is it?
Feather Linux is a Linux distribution which runs completely off a CD or a USB pendrive and takes up under 115Mb of space. It is a Knoppix remaster (based on Debian), and tries to include software which most people would use every day on their desktop.

Thnx I`ll try it out.
Anyone know if there is a redhat/fedora based live cd out there?

Yes, Adios is a redhat based distro. Here's the link
http://dc.qut.edu.au/adios/
There are some others that are Red Hat Fedora based. Basilisk ( formerly linux4all) is one of them.
The link is here:
http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php
or direct download link:
http://www.linux4all.de/livecd/basilisk/1.3/
Berry linux is probably the smallest of the Redhat based live cd distros. You can find a link to it at:
http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php

There's also a distro named Flash Linux made to install on a 256MB or larger USB key. You download their live CD and follow their instructions on setting it up. It's based on Gentoo and uses GNOME as its default window manager.
According to their site, you can install Ethereal and Nessus as "optional packages."
(Unfortunately, my Giga-Byte GA-7VAX mobo won't allow me to boot off of a USB key. Never thought about "booting off of a USB key" as a criterion for selecting a motherboard when I bought it, but that's going to be at the top of the list next time.)
