Own Rescue-CD (Knoppix V6.7.1 remaster)
Hi Everyone
I can't boot directly from a flash drive on my old computer so I've been trying to use the new boot-only cd. My problem is that the flash installs [6.7 DVD or 6.7 CD or 6.5 DVD] all seem to work perfectly if booted from their parent CD or DVD with the cheatcodes <fromhd=/dev/sdb1 nodrm no3d> but on all three knoppix flash installs networking is not enabled if I boot them from the 6.7 boot-only cd. Since the boot-only cd is presumably only mean't do do exactly that - why does it affect the knoppix ongoing networking ability.
If booted from the boot-only cd then only a <network disconnected> icon appears on the panel [and message briefly in the top RH corner of the screen] and if you open nm-network-editor as either user or root, then no available connection appears, for you to edit [normally eth0 in my case] and none can be created [or not by me anyway]. I use a cable modem with an ethernet connection to the computer, so normally all i have to do is edit the [eth0] connection that appears in nm-connection-editor [as root], entering IP Address, netmask, gateway and DNS server addresses and everything is fine. Any ideas anyone, please.
Best wishes, John

Own Rescue-CD (Knoppix V6.7.1 remaster)
Hi Werner Thanks for your quick reply. Am I right in assuming then, that it is the "1" in the 6.7.1 version number that is important i.e. that the boot-only cd is not supposed or expected to boot even version 6.7.0 from a flash drive. Just so that I have it straight. A change in the third decimal point seems such a small change. But then it does have a new kernel version. And I can always still boot my flash installs using the original CD or DVD that I used to make them. Best wishes, John
1. Make sure the boot-only cd version matches for the version of knoppix installed on flash. (As Werner pointed out).
2. If you are using Persistence of any type, try disabling it and rebooting again.
If it runs without persistence than you know where the problem is.![]()
NO WIRELESS network option while using the live Knoppix 6.7.1 DVD and/or live CD -- in the network manager applet down there in the bottom right hand corner of my screen! Also, when I put a check mark in the box located to the left of the "Enable Wireless..." dialog, the check mark WILL NOT STAY in that box when I move my mouse away from the network manager applet and the networking software WILL NOT try to connect to any wireless networks--and the network manager applet CONTINUES to say "NO NETWORKS AVAILABLE" when I know very well that THERE ARE DOZENS OF WIRELESS NETWORKS around me that are within the range of my wireless network interface card. I love Knoppix but I'm growing weary with the wireless network connection problems!!! My laptop is a Lenovo model B575. My wireless adapter is :

I got my WIRELESS WORKING with simple commands at boot up prompt and here they are. I typed in "Knoppix nomodeset noapic acpi=off" (without the quotation marks) and pressed the "Enter" key on my keyboard. Then the operating system loaded and booted to the desktop--but this time the "Enable Wireless" check box stayed checked when I put a check mark in the box to the left of the "Enable Wireless" option down there in the network manager applet that is located at the bottom right hand corner of my screen! And the local wireless routers are all showing when I click on the network manager applet too!!!
when you get to the Knoppix 6.7.1 boot up screen, type "Knoppix nomodeset acpi=off noapic" (without the quotation marks) and then press the "Enter" key on your keyboard and let Knoppix boot to the desktop. Then, right-click on the network manager applet at the bottom right hand corner of your screen, then put a check mark in the box that is located on the left side of the "Enable Wireless" option. The check mark should stay in the check-box after you put a check mark in that box, and your local wireless routers should show in your network manager applet also. I used to use those three commands (nomodeset acpi=off noapic) on my old computer but I didn't realize that they are STILL SIGNIFICANT on new computers today!
